Paula’s first connection with UIL Theatre began in high school when she performed the role of Norma Henshaw in The Diviners in 1983. Her participation as a student in theatre transformed her life.
Mrs. Rodriguez taught Theatre at the High School level for ten years; 3A Sonora High School, 5A San Antonio- MacArthur and Southlake Carroll High School. Under her direction/co-direction, her students were named OAP district champions 10 times and advanced 6 times to the One Act Play State Meet. Sonora High School won the State 3A Championship The Marriage of Bette and Boo in 1993 and placed 2nd Runner up with The Marriage of Figaro and The Beaux’ Strategem. Other state qualifying plays include Marvin’s Room, The Grapes of Wrath, and Anna Karenina.
Paula taught Theatre and served as Theatre Coordinator for 15 years at San Antonio College where she continued to serve UIL as a One Act Play Adjudicator, a Contest Manager and workshop presenter/clinician.
Mrs. Rodriguez judged the 1A, 3A, 4A and 5A State Meets and served as the State Meet Contest Manager at the Bass Concert Hall.
She values OAP and the Theatrical Design and Film Contests for providing an outlet for creativity combined with a positive sense of competition, collaboration and excellence. She is honored to serve teachers and students as the first female UIL State Theatre Director.
